  Student's cap

I In the 19th century, the results of the matriculation examination were published in the main building of Helsinki University. Right after the results were announced, a furious run took place to buy a students cap. Those whose name was not on the list, silently left the building by the back door. A white students cap has been worn since the 1870s. The giving of flowers to students first became fashionable in the early 20th century, and the new students were characterized as rose arrangements with the white capped head arising in the middle. Students used to wear the cap daily, especially in the summer, but nowadays it is used only for the celebrations of May Day.
