| Arvid and Ingeborg
Baron Arvid Horn (1631-1692), so the story runs, fell in love with his cousin Ingeborg Gylldenär. Arvid's father could not accept the marriage and so they were wedded in secret. In those times, there was a strict pew order in the church: the first row was for the most respected members of the community, among them Baron Horn. But the secret union was so shameful that Arvid and Ingeborg were ordered to sit in the second row. Then Arvid decided to build his own church, where he could sit as he pleased. Nowadays, this same wooden church is to be found among the old buildings of the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum. Perhaps the romantic tale of Arvid and Ingeborg is why it is one of the most popular churches for weddings in Helsinki.
